In 1994 my elder sister's wedding was nearly held on the road outside our house, because every decent hall in Patna City was either taken or priced for people who were not us. My father borrowed against the shop and built this one on a plot he had been keeping for a house.
The idea then is the idea now: a clean, cool, properly lit hall that an ordinary family can afford, run by people who will actually be present on the day. We have added air conditioning, a generator, a second dining hall and a lot of parking since. We have not added a banquet manager.
The main hall is 78 by 46 feet with no pillars in the middle, so the stage is visible from every chair. The dining hall sits behind it with its own entrance, which keeps the food queue out of the function. Upstairs there are two changing rooms and a small room families use for the priest or the qazi.

Also mundan, tilak, retirement parties, school functions and a few political meetings we would rather not discuss. If it is a gathering of between eighty and five hundred people, we have probably done it.
